POSITION TITLE: Full-time Grocery

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Grocery Manager

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

To assist in running the Grocery Department to promote sales and achieve profit margins and labor goals; ensure a positive shopping experience for customers and a safe and positive working environment for associates.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Emphasis in this position is on coordinating, directing and assisting with daily stock and display activity in order to ensure merchandising plans are executed and stock levels are maintained. Primary challenge is to positively affect department labor and productivity factors through efficient task organization and delegation. This position is responsible for providing effective training, development and work direction for department associates and requires the ability to encourage individual and group effort toward department objectives. This position requires ongoing judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, reading, writing, math, computer skills, moderate to heavy lifting, walking, operation of forklift, pallet jack, order processing tools and box cutter. Decision-making is collaborative with Grocery Manager. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction are provided by the Grocery Manager or person in charge

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
  • Assist customers and ensure proper service levels and courtesy from all associates
  • Greet customers
  • Assist customers with special orders, requests and new items

  • Exchange product when necessary

  • Organize, direct and assist with work of stock crew
  • Effectively communicate with associates about department priorities and objectives
  • Monitor department and aisle conditions (product availability and placement, display to shelf, stocking, facing, rotation, cleanliness and safety, and signs are maintained properly)
  • Ensure proper handling to control shrinkage and waste
  • Assess and monitor fixed activities for assigned shift
  • Direct work to ensure completion of assigned tasks and efficient uses of labor hours
  • Review production work sheets and maintain production graphs to ensure goals are being met
  • Assess scheduling needs with Grocery Manager
  • Ensure adherence to store and department policies and procedures
  • Monitor customer relations and service levels to ensure a positive shopping environment
  • Monitor department conditions to ensure a positive work environment

  • Plan display location and size with Grocery Manager
  • Supervise and assist in display preparation and building
  • Ensure working of display product to shelf and implementing product resets
  • Assist in display pricing “on/off” program
  • Check for proper rotation

  • Provide ordering of aisle stock for grocery department
  • Order product to maintain appropriate stock levels
  • Ensure orders are placed within allotted time
  • Maintain familiarity with movement of key items to ensure a minimum of over or under stock
  • Order from main and secondary suppliers

  • Monitor and direct grocery department sanitation to ensure proper conditions
  • Coordinate use of maintenance personnel to ensure sanitation standards are met in the grocery department

  • Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and charged

  • Ensure correct piece counts and processing of invoices

  • Ensure processing of shop back, damaged goods and maintaining damage records

  • Assist in monitoring and managing safety and loss prevention efforts for the department
  • Ensure associates know and observe the store’s safety rules
  • Monitor and trains associates in proper use of equipment, maintenance and sanitation standards, proper lifting techniques and other related safe work practices
  • Report all accidents to store management or grocery management promptly or complete incident reports in their absence
  • Observe department conditions and ensures prompt resolution of potentially hazardous situations
