Open Until Filled - applicants will be reviewed as received. Operates two-way radio and answers all incoming calls to effectively gather information from Highway maintenance crews and compile a detailed road report November through April. This report is then entered into a computerized report. Creates script and records roadway information on recording device accessible to the public and news service. May also be required to arrange, sort and file materials; type labels, envelopes, headings, form letters; proofread forms, records, requests, etc.; performs basic arithmetic calculations, answers multi-line telephone, distribute information, operate simple office equipment; keypunch information into computer terminal; work independently; perform related work as required.

Competencies:
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; prioritize information while making decisions in emergency situations; perform basic mathematical calculations; read maps; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, emergency services, and the general public; hear and differentiate messages in an occasionally noisy environment; speak clearly and concisely; and communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Knowledge
Working knowledge of Windows, Word, Oracle, Excel, outlook and Internet; and thorough knowledge of road reporting system and various weather programs preferred.

Special Information:
This position will require the ability to work independently and without direct supervision and alternating work schedules including night shifts, weekends and holidays as weather conditions dictate. Individuals hired will work average of 16-24 hours per week plus or minus depending on need. Shifts/days of work needing coverage for are One shift (All Weekends and Holidays) 6 am - 2 pm and one shift (All Weekends and Holidays) 2 pm - 10 pm . Schedules will be dependent on business need and discussed with successful applicants. Period of active employment is typically November to April.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent; One year of clerical/office experience preferred but not required. Acceptable related skills needed could include: working knowledge of computers, internet use, ability to answer phone/multi line phone, ability to pay attention to detail and good communication skills. Radio experience is desirable but not necessary. Alternative qualifications include: Any combination of related work experience and education equivalent to the minimum qualifications. MDT experience given preference.

A valid Montana Drivers License at the time of employment is required. The successful applicant must have a telephone or be reasonably accessible.

This position is being posted in accordance with the bargaining unit agreement. Non-bargaining unit employees or employees of another bargaining unit may apply. If the position is not filled with a bargaining unit applicant, the non-bargaining unit applicants may be considered. However, bargaining unit applicants will have preference. This position is an MFPE union position.
