The MN State Demographic Center (SDC) is hiring a student worker to assist with the 2020 Census activities. This is an exciting opportunity to join the SDC in their effort to ensure that Minnesotans understand the value and importance of participating in Census 2020 through ongoing communications and community partnerships. You will assist in weekly communication with Complete Count Committees around the state and support communication activates to work towards full participation in the upcoming count.
This is a part-time position working approximately 20 hours/week with a flexible schedule to be agreed upon prior to starting. The length of the appointment is also flexible and may end in either December 2019 or extend to summer of 2020 depending on the selected employees availability.
About the MN State Demographic Center
The MN State Demographic Center, part of the MN Department of Administration, is the main provider of demographic data and analysis for the state. The Center creates yearly population estimates and long-term projections each decade, and analyzes and distributes data from the federal government and other sources to monitor key trends. The State Demographic Center serves as a liaison to the U.S. Census Bureau and as a resource to all Minnesotans to find the demographic data they need to make smart decisions. - Must be currently enrolled in classes and pursuing an advanced degree.
- Interest in the Census.
- Ability to effectively use English skills sufficient to write reports and memos.
- Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel sufficient to create and manipulate data.
- Strong written and oral/written communication skills with organizational and interpersonal skills
- Organizational and prioritization skills sufficient to stay on task and complete projects independently and by determined deadlines.
- Ability to manage time and work effectively without close supervision
Student Worker Eligibility:
To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Para Professional Senior you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate educational program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.Preferred Qualifications
- Experience organizing or contributing to community meetings and/or events.
- Pursuit of degree in Public Policy, Public Affairs, Public Administration or related field of study.
- Experience working on an issue-oriented/political campaign, or in government.
- Possess political savvy or awareness.
